A man was stripped naked before being tied up and tortured by a gang of vigilante thugs who thought he was walking "suspiciously", say police. The brutal attack was allegedly carried out by the 'moral guardians' in Southern India. His attackers left him bloodied and bruised and police have since confirmed they have launched an investigation to find out what happened. When he was found he was barely conscious and was rushed to the nearby Kodungallur Government Taluk Hospital. It is not known what specific "crime" he is alleged to have carried out, with the man telling police his torturers told him he was being punished for "roaming around suspiciously" near his home.

The women were tortured by the police while seeking information about their brother, who eloped with a girl. The brazen incident took place under the Sipajhar police station in Darrang. According to one of the victims, her two months of pregnancy had to be terminated after she sustained severe injuries after being tortured at the police station. At the police station, the three sisters were tortured by three policemen the whole night. Not only this, the women alleged that they were also threatened at gunpoint not to file any police complaint about what happened inside the police station.
